Objective
To build strength in positional blocking while building endurance & recovery
Activity
Skaters will pair up and move around the track while one executes a plow stop to keep the other slowed/stopped.
- Works in 10:20 second rolling rest to active engagement intervals
- For 10 seconds, Skater B will "push" Skater A forward, who will passively roll forward; after 10 seconds, on the whistle, Skater A will execute a plow stop to slow/stop Skater B and will attempt to maintain this positional blocking for 20 seconds.
- Repeat this interval for 4 minutes, for a total of 8 reps -- after 4 minutes, Skater A & Skater B switch positions
- Ideally, repeat 2x for a complete Tabata circuit, but monitor skaters because this is extremely tiring and hard on hips
Level up options:
- At base level, Skater B will only push forward -- add challenge by encouraging Skater B to change lanes, requiring Skater A track and add lateral movement to their positional blocking
Check For Learning
- Both skaters maintain good balance while executing and receiving the positional block
- Skater receiving the block will have an observable and marked decrease in momentum when being positionally blocked
- Skaters will perform positional blocks with legal blocking zones to legal target zones -- Skaters will monitor their speed to ensure they do not maintain a complete stop while blocking or move clockwise while blocking (direction penalties) and will utilize lateral steps to ensure movement and avoid penalties.
