Dee : Hammer and Nail

15
mins

Objective
back wall will work together to hit the jammer out on the line
Activity

3 blockers & 1 jammer ( can also do this drill with 2/no brace)

Tripod will form on the line - jammer will be pushing the blocker closest to the line trying get past them

The blocker on the line being pushed will come forward slightly (making the jammer think that they are “winning) and then turn towards the inside of the track, giving the jammer their hips The other back wall blocker now has space to clear the jammer on that line

brace - make sure you are easing up your link to the blocker on the line, giving them the freedom to move up some

For the drawback, brace is in a good position to run back - if no brace, then the now angle inside blocker can do the run back as they will still be in front

Check For Learning
  • There should be clear communication on the track - “move up, hammer, ease forward, hit out” etc. whatever you want to say
  • Blockers are in control when they are turning and the moment that the way is clear, the partner blocker is making the hit (don’t go too early, watch for directionals)
  • For this drill, it is helpful to have the jammer pushing and staying in lane 1
