Princess Sleia : Sync and trap

15
mins

Objective
Keeping the jammer trapped in the back of the pack
Activity

Pre-req's:

  • Backwards and lateral movement as a two wall or as a jammer
  • Holding a jammer with a two wall (see pizza pocket)

Once we have trapped the jammer in our pizza pocket, the typical response from the jammer is to back off and take a run at one of the lines. This drill will counter that move, with the intent to re-trap that jammer <br>

  1. Set up in groups of three- a two wall with a jammer in their pizza pocket
  2. On the whistle, the jammer can engage, and once they feel sufficiently "caught", back up to create space to take the other line
  3. Once the jammer disengages, the two wall will synchronize back on the jammer (be mindful to avoid direction penalties)
  4. Advanced - surge the jammer to a line, BUT not over the line and trap them up against the line using a trap (in a trap, the blocker on the line will cap-or sit on- the jammer to prevent forward motion and the other blocker will be off the back of them at an angle, but still connected to the cap. This creates a trap, where the jammer is trapped up against the line. The only way out is back, which then triggers another sync.
  5. Once blockers can sync and trap successfully, start them at a pivot of jam line and see how far back they can maneuver the jammer.
Check For Learning
  1. Blockers are holding jammer in a pizza pocket
  2. Blockers have their timing down and sync back on the jammer without 1) giving away their line or 2) pulling penalties
  3. Blockers can successfully trap a jammer without creating too much space between themselves to allow the jammer free passage
  4. Blockers can move the jammer 20' clockwise without incurring penalti
